On December 13, 2024, the Tower Renewal Partnership, The Atmospheric Fund, and WoodGreen Community Services convened over 20 leading organizations from Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and Natural Resources Canada to New York State Energy Research and Development Authority and the Rocky Mountain Institute for a cross-sector summit focused on scaling deep energy retrofits across North America.
Bringing together housing providers, policymakers, and industry innovators, the session advanced a shared agenda: industrialized, panelized retrofit as a practical solution to Canada’s housing, climate, and economic challenges.
Participants shared leading-edge pilots, technologies, and delivery models from prefabricated envelope systems to manufacturing and installation strategies, demonstrating that deep retrofit is no longer theoretical, but ready to scale.
At its core, this work advances three interdependent goals:
- Transition existing housing to net-zero through scalable deep energy retrofit
- Sustain post-war apartment stock as resilient, healthy, affordable, and fit-for-purpose homes
- Grow a national retrofit industry—creating stable demand, expanding high-performance manufacturing, and strengthening Canada’s economy
